Lane Use Control Sign

Arrows over a lane tell you the only movements permitted from that lane at the intersection.

What This Sign Means

Lane use signs (overhead or roadside) show which way each lane must go — for example, a curved arrow means the lane must turn. Once you're in the lane, the arrow is mandatory, not advisory.

What You Should Do

Choose your lane early. If you end up in a must-turn lane by mistake, make the turn anyway and double back — never cut across traffic or stop in the intersection.

Knowledge Test Tip

The matching pavement arrows mean the same thing. If both sign and marking show 'turn only', going straight is a ticketable offence.
