Stop Sign
The red octagon means you must come to a complete stop before the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection edge.
What This Sign Means
The stop sign is the only octagon-shaped sign on Alberta roads, so you can recognize it by shape alone — even if it's covered in snow. It legally requires a complete stop, not a slow roll.
What You Should Do
Come to a full stop at the stop line. If there is no line, stop before the crosswalk; if there is no crosswalk, stop at the edge of the intersection. Yield to traffic and pedestrians, then proceed when safe.
Knowledge Test Tip
The test loves asking WHERE to stop: stop line first, then crosswalk, then the edge of the intersection. A rolling stop is never acceptable.
