Regulatory Signs
Yield Sign
The inverted red-and-white triangle means slow down and give the right-of-way to traffic and pedestrians.
What This Sign Means
A yield sign means cross traffic and pedestrians have the right-of-way. You must let them go first, but unlike a stop sign you are not required to stop if the way is clear.
What You Should Do
Slow down as you approach. If there is traffic or pedestrians, stop and let them pass. If the intersection is clear, you may proceed without stopping.
Knowledge Test Tip
Yield is the only sign shaped like an inverted (downward-pointing) triangle. Shape questions are common on the Alberta knowledge test.
