Flashing Green Light
In Alberta, a flashing green means a pedestrian-controlled signal — proceed, but be ready to stop if a pedestrian activates it.
What This Sign Means
This is one of Alberta's most misunderstood signals. A flashing green light marks a pedestrian-activated crossing: cross traffic faces a stop sign, and the light only changes when a pedestrian pushes the button. It does NOT mean a protected left turn (as it does in some other provinces).
What You Should Do
Proceed as you would on a normal green, but watch for the light changing if a pedestrian has pushed the button.
Knowledge Test Tip
Almost guaranteed to appear on your test. Alberta flashing green = pedestrian-controlled intersection, not an advance turn signal.
