Diamond Warning Signs Explained

Yellow diamond-shaped signs warn of hazards ahead — the shape and colour alone tell you to use caution.

What This Sign Means

In Alberta, virtually all permanent hazard warnings use the yellow diamond: curves, intersections, animals, pedestrians, narrow bridges, and more. Orange diamonds carry the same warnings in construction zones.

What You Should Do

Treat every yellow diamond as a cue to slow down, scan ahead, and be ready to react — even before you've read the symbol.

Knowledge Test Tip

Colour + shape questions are everywhere on the test: yellow diamond = warning, orange diamond = construction warning.
