Warning Signs
Merge Sign
Warns that two roadways join ahead — merging traffic must match speed and blend in safely.
What This Sign Means
Merge signs appear where an entrance ramp or lane joins the main road. Traffic already on the main road has the right-of-way, but courteous drivers adjust to let merging vehicles in.
What You Should Do
If you're merging: accelerate to match traffic speed, signal, and blend into a gap — don't stop on the ramp unless absolutely necessary. If you're on the highway: adjust speed or change lanes to help mergers.
Knowledge Test Tip
Test answer: use the acceleration lane to match the speed of highway traffic before merging. Stopping at the end of a ramp is a common wrong answer.
