Warning Signs
Lane Ends Sign
Warns that your lane is ending ahead and traffic must merge into the adjacent lane.
What This Sign Means
Lane-ends signs give you advance notice to merge before the lane disappears. The arrow shows which lane is ending.
What You Should Do
Signal early and merge as soon as a safe gap appears. In heavy traffic, a zipper merge (alternating one car from each lane at the merge point) keeps things moving.
Knowledge Test Tip
Drivers in the continuing lane aren't legally required to let you in — the merging driver must find a safe gap.
