Stop Line

The wide white line across your lane shows exactly where to stop at a sign or signal.

What This Sign Means

Stop lines position vehicles safely back from crosswalks and cross traffic. Stopping past the line puts your car in the pedestrian path.

What You Should Do

Bring your vehicle to a stop with the front bumper behind the line — not on it or past it.

Knowledge Test Tip

Stopping position hierarchy (a top test question): stop line first; no line → before the crosswalk; no crosswalk → at the edge of the intersection.
